Meet the Director

Karen Cruz

As the Director of Ivy Kids of Young Ranch, I am dedicated to fostering the growth and development of every child, ensuring they receive the highest quality education in a safe, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere. I am an experienced leader in Early Childhood Education, with 16 years of expertise in nurturing young minds and creating positive learning environments.

Throughout my career, I have advanced through a variety of roles, beginning as a Classroom Teacher and moving into leadership positions such as Office Manager, Assistant Director, Director of Education, and Director. I hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Infant and Toddlers and Director Credentials. In addition, I earned an Associate of Arts in Health and Sciences from Houston Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Houston.

Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, I was raised as a military child, which gave me the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and perspectives. This background has deeply influenced my approach to education and my ability to connect with families from all walks of life.

Outside of my professional role, I enjoy spending time with my blended family, which includes five children of my own and two bonus children. I also have a passion for reading, traveling, and watching movies.

I am excited to work closely with the families of the Young Ranch community to provide a high-quality early education experience that nurtures the social, emotional, and academic development of every child.

Meet the Education Director

Jennifer Fernandez

Hello! My name is Jennifer, but most people know me as Ms. Jenny. I am happily married to my best friend and greatest supporter. We have shared nearly a decade together, filled with countless memories, laughter, and life’s many ups and downs. Together, we have two beautiful daughters who are the light of our lives. Their curiosity, creativity, and boundless energy inspire me every day. Watching them grow has been one of my greatest joys and serves as a constant reminder of how quickly time passes. I believe it is essential to savor every second, capture every memory, and truly embrace the little moments that make life special.

Growing up, I moved frequently, which gave me a unique appreciation for the importance of stability in a child’s life. While those experiences helped me develop resilience and adaptability, they also instilled in me a deep passion for creating a sense of belonging and consistency for children. Building meaningful relationships has always been important to me, and as a natural social butterfly, I thrive on connecting with others and fostering a warm, welcoming environment.

I hold an associate degree in Business Administration and am excited to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources in the fall of 2024. My educational background, combined with over eight years of experience in education and administration, has prepared me to support children’s growth and success with unwavering dedication.

For the past three years, I have been a proud member of the Ivy Kids family, working to create a nurturing and engaging environment for children, families, and staff. I am passionate about early childhood education because I believe it lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning and success. As one of my favorite quotes from Matilda by Roald Dahl reminds us: “Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.” This beautifully reflects my belief in the boundless potential of every child.

Preschool is an exciting and important stage of development, where children not only build academic skills but also develop social and emotional foundations such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. These formative years are about more than learning letters and numbers—they are about creating an environment where children feel safe, loved, and confident to explore, ask questions, and cultivate a lifelong love of learning.

As both an educator and a parent, I understand how precious these early years are. I am committed to partnering with families to provide children with the tools, encouragement, and support they need to thrive. Collaboration and open communication are at the heart of my approach. By working closely with parents and teachers, I aim to build a strong support system that empowers children to reach their fullest potential.

I am thrilled and honored to step into the role of Education Director at Ivy Kids of Young Ranch. I look forward to continuing to invest in our children’s futures, building meaningful relationships, and strengthening our incredible Ivy Kids community. Together, we can help every child succeed, thrive, and shine!
