5 Fun Activities for Fall

Put away your swimsuits, take out your light jackets and long sleeves! Fall is officially here. ‘Tis the season to enjoy all things pumpkin, hot chocolate, and the falling leaves. Just because the heat of the summer is on its way out, it doesn’t mean you and your little one should resign to a season spent in front of the TV! Here are some of our favorite activities to dive into this fall!

Curl up with a great book
Reading to your children is one of the best things you can do for them, as it builds their vocabulary, develops their emotional intelligence, and strengthens your bond. So don’t limit reading just to bedtime. Next time fall surprises you with rain, or you’re just feeling too comfortable inside to leave the house, curl up with your little ones, and dive into a great book together. Pick up an autumn favorite like ‘There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves’ or ‘The Little Yellow Leaf’, make a cup of Chai or your favorite warm beverage, and relish an afternoon spent at home.

Keep little hands busy with arts and crafts
There’s no better way to keep your children occupied and welcome fall together than with some beautiful seasonal arts and crafts. If you’ve collected pretty leaves and nuts on your fall walks, why not use them to make some decorations for your home? Transform pine cones into cute hedgehogs, or use the most colorful foliage to create a decorative leaf art craft to hang in your window.

Enjoy the fruits of fall
The rich bounty of fall makes it one of the tastiest seasons. Food related activities are an amazing opportunity for your children to have fun and learn. The farmer’s market with all its colors and variety available this time of year will look like a true Wonderland to children’s eyes. It’s a great place to teach your little ones about all the fruits of fall. And the adventure doesn’t have to end there! Let them pick out their favorites and enjoy cooking and eating them together later. A morning at the market can turn into an afternoon baking apple pie.

Explore and enjoy nature
Fall is an excellent season to spend outdoors. The steaming Texas summer heat is replaced with gorgeous, mild weather perfect for outdoor adventures. It’s the ideal time to take your children to your favorite hiking trail, or just the nearest park. As the leaves turn, take the opportunity to teach your child about the seasons and natural cycles. Children also love collecting acorns, hazelnuts, pine cones, pretty leaves, and other mementos of autumn. If you can manage to find and identify foliage from different trees, they will look great pressed in a photo album. And don’t forget to just put on some old shoes and clothes and go kicking leaves!
